Down below is where I'll be describing the entirety of the project.
Project Overview
Project Objectives:
Find the outliers for the Ecological footprint
Finding the minimum, median, and maximum numbers of earths by Country
Find the lowest average ecological footprint between the US and UAE residents
Finding the most common output for the personal earth overshoot day
Project Solutions:
Through comparison of each countries ecological footprint and amount of earth's they have, we can try to better our ways of not creating as much waste and be more ecologically minded with how we live our daily lives
Assumptions:
Our group thought that the US residents would have the highest average ecological footprint compared to the UAE residents, and have the highest amount of earths compared to the other countries in our data set
Project Obstacles
Punctuation errors with the data
Solution: Filtered the dates to all have the same format
Linking the CSV file to a website
Solution: Used WebHostingForStudents as the source to link our CSV file
Debugging code to properly find solutions to certain questions
Solution: Had to convert the Ecological Footprint data type from a string to an int as well as converting the Personal Earth Overshoot Day from an int to an object
Project Implementation
Our group had collected ecological footprint data from family, friends, and from students in the UAE
The tools that were used to analyze the data and answer questions are SQL, Google Collab, Replit and Excel
We cleaned and compiled our data in an Excel spreadsheet where we had combined all our data into one single spreadsheet from when we had joined groups together
Project Improvement
Answering the question in google collab rather than mySQL in order to help paint a better picture by displaying the results in a bar chart rather than in just text. Also allowing for more analysis such as discussing if the average and median are the same value or not skewed
Give a more detailed look at the outliers plotted for the dataset on the shared document in Google Collab
Terminology like minimum, median, and maximum in our questions, as those are typically the statistical terms used when analyzing data rather than low numbers and medium numbers
Focusing on the UAE and USA countries of residence could be helpful since the sample size for the other countries was less than 30 and would’ve made our analysis more compelling
Overall Project Reflection
What we found particularly interesting doing the capstone project would be working with students from another country, being the UAE
Working with students from the UAE was also a difficult because of the challenge with living in different time zones which made communication difficult
It was nice to see that we had a variety of different people from all over the world. This helped us categorize the amount of earths by country and find the minimum, median, and maximum number of earths
Our group found the Agile mindset to be extremely useful. We were able to become successful with our project because we were understanding, flexible with everyone's circumstances, and collaborated to the best of our ability even if not everyone was able to attend
